While the eyes of the cycling world are currently focused on the Tour de France – come January 27 – 31 the focus will shift to Geelong and the Surf Coast for the staging of the 2027 Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.

The 2027 edition is another unique celebration blending the best of world cycling with the joy of community cycling, starting with the Men’s and Women’s UCI WorldTour Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Races, the UCI ProSeries Surf Coast Classic, the TAC People’s Ride, and the GeelongPort Family Ride.

Named after the only Australian to have won the Tour de France, the Men’s and Women’s Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Races on January 30 and 31 promise to once again showcase for fans the excitement and unpredictability of One-Day Classic racing on the roads of Geelong, the Bellarine and Surf Coast regions.

Registrations have also officially opened for the 2027 TAC People’s Ride (January 30), Australia’s only participation ride that provides riders the opportunity to complete the same course the professionals race on the 24 hours following. Led by Cadel himself and supported by legends of Australian cycling and sport, the TAC People’s Ride provides riders a stunning custom Santini jersey and sets the stage for the Women’s Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race that follows. It is quite simply one of the great days of cycling, not just in Australia, but anywhere in the world.

For families, the GeelongPort Family Ride offers a gentler, free entry point into the weekend of cycling for our future champions and framing it all, the UCI ProSeries Surf Coast Classic brings international cycling to Victoria’s iconic Surf Coast region, starting in Lorne and finishing in Torquay.

Speaking from the Tour de France where he is a part of SBS’s broadcast commentary team, Cadel shared his excitement looking toward January 2027:

“The Mapei Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race just gets bigger and better every year, and that growth is something we can all be excited by, and proud of. The prestige and status of the event on the UCI WorldTour is gathering enormous momentum and I expect some very big names to be on the start line in 2027”.

But it’s not only about the professionals and according to Cadel that’s the beauty of the event:

“There is genuinely an opportunity for everyone to be involved in our event on and off the bike. The TAC People’s Ride is the most beautiful ride I participate in year in, year out and I’ll never tire of the special atmosphere created by 3000 cycling legends”.

Minister for Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said:

“Victoria has built a reputation as the events capital of Australia, and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race is a shining example of why — bringing world-class athletes and cycling fans to Geelong and the Surf Coast, and putting our stunning coastline in front of a global audience. It’s fantastic to see so many Victorians get involved every year. The Victorian Government backs events like this because they deliver real benefits for our regional communities.”
